Expressway Partnership

The Expressway Partnership program stands out from typical ‘adopt-a-highway' programs in other states. The only such program in Illinois, the Expressway Partnership melds corporate and civic involvement to improve Chicago’s quality of life.

Unlike similar programs across the country, the Expressway Partnership does more than litter removal. We work with landscape architects to create multi-year plans for each site so landscaping will fit in with the existing environment and eventually become sustainable. Landscaping crews visit the sites regularly for maintenance including mowing, pruning, watering, weed control, and, of course, litter pick-up – all of which are made possible by corporate donors like you.

• 77,000 shrubs planted

• Nearly 1 million drivers use the expressways daily
• In 2005 a new landscaping design was implemented on both the Kennedy and the Eisenhower using native grasses and undulating mowlines to create a sweeping effect.
